Malverne NY Yellow Pages

Malverne is a hamlet in the town of Hempstead on the South Shore of Long Island. The first settlers of the Malverne including what is now Queens and Nassau were the Rockaway Indians. Farming was the way of life as colonists began moving to the area at which time other businesses began to be built including a greenhouse, wheelwright shop, general stores, grist mill, tavern, and hotel. Malverne was incorporated in 1921.

Malverne Union Free School District is home to two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. The hamlet has its own police reserve, volunteer fire department, and volunteer ambulance corps. Malverne Mel and Malverne Melissa have helped put the hamlet on the map as they are groundhogs that have been making weather predictions since 1996 on Groundhog Day. One event that is not only popular among residents but also with visitors which is The Lighting of Malverne which is held the first Saturday of December along with a parade. The business district is completely dark on the day until the Mayor flips the switch for the lights to come on creating a breath-taking display.
